Yes, it's the end of July, but this entry is about June:

June was a fun month, though it started with the noticeable absence of our beloved drummer Ethan, as he toured with Jesse Colin Young. On the 2nd we played sans drums at the always fun Cafe du Nord with our pal James Combs, who has transplanted to LA. At the end of the month we reunited with Ethan for a night to open for Jesse at The Sweetwater in Mill Valley... I know what you're thinking - but no, we didn't do the 20 Minute Loop version of "Get Together".

So! Then, we piled into a Ford van and split down the I-5 with surrogate drummer and super guy Mike Ramono. Mike is one of the greatest guys to hang with, and plays with a fabulous relaxed pocket... my favorite! Especially for someone who doesn't even own a
drum set... this guy is too good. We got off the 5 at Hollywood, CA for a show at the Silverlake Lounge with some great bands: James Combs, John Gold and Merrick. Tons of fun and more cool people. We plan to make a habit of getting down to LA.

Our trip down was quick and easy despite having to stop for Joe and Kelly to pee constantly. Special thanks for James for setting up the show and letting us crash all over his beautiful home and to Christine Berry for showing us an awesome brunch place and for the Observatory tour. After buying some rock n' roll sunglasses (a prerequisite for looking cool in LA), we headed back up the I-5.

Distracted by endless games and puzzles, the trip went somewhat quickly until I managed to derail us some where near Visalia and we were then stuck in a mire of two lane roads. Sorry guys.

Some memorable quotes from the trip back:

Joe: "MONKEYGLOVE!!!!"

Nils: "Ok, here's another game... I'm going on a picnic and I'll bring
Nectarines and Eggplants!"

Kelly: "No guys, really! In and Out Burger is really good!"

Greg: "I don't give a shit what Mrs. Green likes, and I'm not going
on your Goddamned picnic!"

Mike: "..." Well.... Mike's a pretty quiet guy...

Other memorable moments:

1) Brian Kenny Fresno sing along as we passed Fresno and Mydogmytruckmadera! (which is one word OF COURSE).

2) Careful when you let Joe out of the van... he's likely to leap around all over, spouting senseless nonsequiturs and rolling all over the ground to scare the driver of a car he accidently cut off while pulling into a rest stop.

3) COOKIES. Lots of 'em. If you ever need to find a way into our hearts, it's definitely cookies. Or perhaps massages... every one of us with the exception of Greg has some horrible ailment to whine about routinely... So yeah, cookies and massages.

Love,
Nils
